RIP Grandpa

Post by maggiemay on Thu Jan 13, 2011 8:46 am

Most of you know that my grandpa had cancer...well he passed away sometime last night. We're not sure what killed him (the cancer, heart attack, etc.). He was doing radiation this week and was staying in a hotel room because of the weather and died in the shower. He never finished the radiation.
A couple weeks ago he found out that his tumor got bigger which is why they started radiation.
I haven't updated in awhile so that's the short story of what's been going on. I figured I would let you know what happened.

I would appreciate it if you could keep us in your thoughts/prayers, especially because this was really unexpected. He was supposed to walk my cousin down the aisle in June and that was his goal.

Maggie, I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is in my prayers. I knew that he had been sick for a while, I guess I didn't realize how sick he really was. Take care, sweetie. It will be ok.

Thanks Michelle Smile Even I don't know how sick he was recently, no one really told me. Someone said it had become stage 4 but no one else said anything about it.
It will be okay, we knew this was coming just not now...

That's cool. When my uncle's mother died they had more of a party for her than a funeral. She had cancer that spread to her bones. It's great that you're honoring his wishes, many times that doesn't happen when a loved on dies. Death is tough, hang in there.

My grandpa wanted his ashes thrown in Tampa Bay, with the hopes of ending up in some girl's bikini(That's my grandpa for you, hahah. Wish I could have seen him once more before he died). But his ashes are currently planted in a cemetery in the ghetto, here in NY.

I want to do what he wanted but my grandma wants some other things. We're working on her... Yeah it is tough but I'm doing okay.

Lol that's funny. Sounds kinda like something my grandpa would say. He wants his ashes buried in the yard here but that might not happen.

Re: RIP Grandpa

I decided I'd let you all know what exactly happened, considering it's been 3 months.

My grandpa and aunt were staying at a hotel because gpa was getting radiation and the weather was too bad for them to go back and forth everyday between the hospital and my grandparents house. One night, my grandpa had a little accident (he had bathroom problems for awhile) and went to the shower to clean up. My aunt I guess sensed that something was wrong and woke up and found him in the shower. She called the front desk who called the police (or firemen or something, I forgot who) and then the funeral home came and got his body :/ My mom, gma, aunt, etc. went to the funeral home and figured things out and we decided his party (not a funeral) would be the next weekend. The whole family was together and it was nice and exactly what my grandpa wanted.
So that's basically what happened.

I am so sorry Maggie. Cancer sucks. We had a scare with a family friend, who had stage four Lymphoma, she survived because she is young and healthy. .

It is really sad, that is how my grandmother died also, Lymphoma. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

P.S. I totally support the fiesta funeral. Cancer is a not very fun way to die, and having a depressing funeral just would just highlight that.
