Resident Evil: Afterlife

Post by Unit7 on Mon Sep 13, 2010 3:42 am

Finally watched Resident Evil 4 and I have to say... I hated it. There was nothing really to like about this movie in all honesty. Now I have enjoyed the other 3 movies in the film franchise, though I think my favorite by far is Degeneration. Oh wait thats not part of the Live Action one... oh well still prefered Degeneration over this.

The movie started off nicely. In fact I thought it was a brilliant opening. I loved how the rain was falling as busy Japanese Peoples were scurrying about. A single female standing in the rain, and I just loved how you can see the rain slide across her face like that. It was a rather intense scene. You knew what was about to happen... but you didn't know when. The suspense was... well it was perhaps the most suspensful scene in the entire movie.

Then you see 2 snipers talking which was sorta cool. When they died it turned over to Wesker and some control room within an Umbrella facility.

That entire sequence was... well the only bit I found rather fun was when she was dual wielding 2 swords. The whole slow motion thing was quickly getting annoying. The killing was fun I guess. Though for some reason when Wesker was shooting up at the 2 Alice's it looked really weird for some reason. I dunno maybe it has something to do with being a pirated version... In fact I hope it is because it wasn't the only scene where they were holding a gun and something felt... off about it.

The second Wesker died I knew exactly that he wasn't dead. Well it didn't hurt seeing a a trailer with him throwing his glasses but even then I knew he was alive. Of course in the Video Game Franchise I think Wesker has a tendency to come back to life more then should probably be possible.

The rest of the movie was just boring. I did love the scene where the massive Zombie Creature witht he Hammer/Axe(I wonder if that weapon has a proper name... anyone know it?) was walking slowly through the streets as he dragged his weapon behind. Now I really want to get that as my desktop wall paper.

But like I said I found the vast majority of the movie boring. Alice is flying around making a journal of it I guess. She meets up with Claire Redfield. But I am a bit annoyed that the device that was on her wasn't... well explained at all. I mean what was its purpose? I thought "Well maybe it's to keep the person under sedation?" but then I was like "No, then how could she possibly be running around like that?" I was... and still am... stumped. Now maybe some dude decided to edit the film. If so, please tell me what this device was for!

The Slow Motion was amazingly annoying. I almost half expected Wesker to pull a Neo for a moment. But the slow motion I take it was for the most part there for the audience seeing it in 3D. Because aside from the opening scene in Tokyo, Wesker throwing his Sunglasses, and maybe a during Alice's invasion of the Tokyo Facility. It should have been no where else. Well maybe a few scenes. But really! I really disliked the slow motion.

Chris Redfield. Considering Chris Redfield is a major character within the Resident Evil franchise, I think this movie did him a great injustice. I will behonest with you, I have only played Resident Evil 4, and read one of the Game's novelizations. So yeah. I was a bit bummed about how they handled that.

Arcadia. Well I wasn't exactly surprised to tell you the truth. I think once she found Claire, I was sorta convinced it was a trap of some sort. Of course then I dismissed that and wondered maybe if the ship was over taken and it was supposed to end the movie on the same depressing thoughts: Maybe they are the last after all. But when I saw the Umbrella marking on that door I was like "Oh Wesker is here!"

I will admit I loved the Dogs. Though I have to wonder somethign. Were those... uh mutations of the Mouth area in the previous Resident Evil movies? I mean I think in RE5 an enemy in the game has similar features. But yeah.

Also I did enjoy the fight between Wesker and Claire and Chris. The way he sorta warped around and was insanely strong. That was thoroughly enjoyable. I was very relieved that a small dagger/knife to the head wasn't going to finish him off. I swear if thats how he was going to die I would be all sorts of angry. But he continued to fight!

[spoilers] So... assuming there is a Resident Evil 5 movie, who wants to bet that Wesker is still alive and kicking? Because while that nice explosion was pretty sweet(also the one in tokyo was great too) I am willing to bet that Wesker is somehow alive. Though perhaps maybe not. That explosion seemed to vaporize just about anything... but I somehow think he might pull and Alice, and has a few clones running around. Actually speaking of which. I was almost expecting one of the Umbrella Security Agents was going to reveal that they all might be Wesker...But yeah I am going to say that somehow Wesker is alive. Because if he is not... then I am thoroughly pissed off about it [/spoiler]

Now lets talk about that ending!

Seriously what was up with that ending? You see whats his face exiting the drain pipe thing and you see a Umbrella Helicopter thing and then you see more... and more... and then you see inside and you realize it really is Umbrella!! Though the movie is left off on a very very huge cliff hanger. I got to say I am not looking forward to a fifth in the series.

This movie really felt like it added nothing to the film franchise. Except some slow motion, some action, and thats about it.

I was disapointed to the fullest. Now if you know anything about me, then you should know I am pretty easily entertained. But this movie just didn't do it for me.

Heres hoping that some asshole decided to mess with the movie so large chunks were missing!

Oh based on the trailer the movie looks horrible, but I might still download it to watch those two ladies on mute. Wink

Be my guest. Would like to see someone elses opinion. So far the regular places I go to seem to not want to discuss the movie. I hope you enjoy it. I just couldn't. Sad

I thought the trailer made the movie look... well good. Enjoyable at the very least. But I just didn't find it all that enjoyable. A few scenes here and there were good. But over all I didn't like it.

lmao. You know I have to admit. After seeing that picture. If there was ever a reason for me to believe in Jesus its that. I mean... I can finally say that zombies do exist and that all my hard work and preperations for the apocalypse was not a joke. Smile

Also I am curious.

Did you ever see Resident Evil: Afterlife? I remember I gave it a rather bad rating. Might have to rewatch it with a more uh clear mind.

As for The Walking Dead.

I seriously can't wait. I mean its one of the more unique shows on TV. I mean how many are about zombies?

Oh.

That also reminds me that i need to start watching the new episodes of High School of the Dead. Very Happy Gotta admit, I even missed the over use of fanservice in the form of big boobs. Razz

Hard not to. Especially since zombies had a new rise in popularity. That and meteor/nuclear war is so Cold War era. Romero got it right though, its going to be zombies.

No you didnt. But thats ok. I still have Battlestar Gallactica still being 'written' somewhere in my head... in other words I need to write that up. Razz

That is awesome. Smile

Of Highschool of the Dead? Yeah. For awhile I thought it was cancelled or had no idea when the new airdate was and when it be subbed.

EDIT:

Alright actually its just this OVA thing... I guess maybe there wont be new episodes because I cant seem to find any airdate or anything.
